Water Sector

Risks
  • Unpredictable water network
  • No clear information about water network behaviour
  • No water demand data

The Study

Water is a necessity for life, and water supply is a critical factor for the development and evolution of every community. Managing water supply is a critical responsibility, unlike other consumer products, water is a resource that is needed all the time by everyone on daily necessities. Every day, the water authority has to make sure the water extraction, treatment & distribution are running in good condition and to ensure water supply has to be readily available. While minimizing service interruptions and development, the northern Malaysia water authority has to consistently plan and implement strategies and upgrades to ensure the sustainability of water supply in the future.

OUR

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE

With geographical limitation, population growth, and escalating industrial water demand, the water authority realized to herald the beginning of the new era for sustainable, innovative and professional water supply management. As they realized, they do not have a centralized SCADA system to visualize and monitor the overview of the water supply scheme. A few challenges they are facing:

  • No water demand data indicates either oversupply / lack of supply water in the region.
  • No clear information about water network behaviour in terms of water pressure and water flow to consumers.
  • The water network is unpredictable if any issue raised from the asset or instrument.
  • Lack of real-time simulation for planning maintenance work or unplanned maintenance that raise.
  • Lack of information and awareness to trigger the operator to act before any issue raised.
OUR

SOLUTION

As part of the water authority’s commitment for continuous improvement in water supply, YNY Technology’s expertise has converted the problems into solutions with AVEVA System Platform solution under two phases.

The implementation for Phase 1 works:

  • Provide a proactive and predictive system to monitor and analyze accurate measurement of water production input & output
  • Provide forecasting system tracking to monitor and ensure speedy pipe repair, manage any active leakage control
  • Increase visibility and control with an overview on reading accuracy, reading & calibration
  • Increase coordination and communication between departments & operators with digitalize workflow software

The implementation for Phase 2 works:

  • Implement the water network diagram – to give consumers a full illustration of the trunk main network
  • Provide forecasting dashboard of water demand and to track aging of water network in the whole main network
  • Provide validation and field test for the trunk main network.
THE

RESULT

Towards the year 2050’s timeframe, the water authority plans to strive to manage water supply sustainability for the future. Beyond upgrading the operational structure, the improved water management system which linked to their benchmark, in result with:

  • Effective control and monitoring of water treatment plant production.
  • Aware of water network before any issue /problem is raised.
  • More effective coordination and communication when issues are raised.
  • Effective decision making with sufficient information to support.
  • Effective decision making in maintenance and scenario planning.
  • All Issue raises will be recorded down in the digital form.
